Policing in Elmsford has grown with the village itself, from the early 1900s to today.
Early Years
Law enforcement in Elmsford dates back to the early 1900s, as the village — located in Westchester County, New York — began to grow and develop. In those early years, policing was handled by a small force of constables and marshals appointed by local government officials.
Growth and Development
As Elmsford grew throughout the 20th century, the need for a more organized and professional police force became evident. The department expanded its ranks and adopted modern policing techniques and equipment to better serve the community.
The Modern Era
In recent decades, the Elmsford Police Department has evolved into a modern law enforcement agency equipped for the challenges of policing in the 21st century — community policing initiatives, specialized crime prevention and investigation, and technology that enhances everyday police work.
